Why I wanted to participate in ViVID:

“I am a native speaker of Catalan, which is a minorized language with some online presence, although materials to learn it tend to go through Spanish/ We strive to be a global and welcoming society, and I decided to volunteer as a Catalan instructor in different facilities throughout the years. It has been since the pandemic started that we moved our lessons to the online format. Even though I have striven to improve my skills through a variety of webinars, as well as diving deep into the features of Zoom, H5P, Kahoot, and Quizlet, I still think that there is much more that I could be doing for my students. Every time I talk to a different online instructor, I am in awe of how much we can learn from each other -from online escape rooms, to copyright free pictures that allows us to make our materials available to a broader audience. I think this project could help me further my skills in these regards. 

In addition, I am a Ph.D. student in Second Language Acquisition at the University of Maryland, College Park, so having a chance to further the practical application of what I am learning and share the journey with fellow instructors of LCTL would surely be an unparalleled experience.”
